"HKD Solutions... I cannot Thank you enough for the help getting funding for my son's UrZone bed. My little boy, who is 7, was born with Downs Syndrome and has ADHD. Bedtime was awful as Daniel would not sleep at all. He would just destroy his room climbing, banging the doors, and shouting. Also because Daniel was not sleeping his behaviour was awful day and night, which also affected him at school. When Daniel was unwell with a chest infection, which is very often, he needed his steam vaporizer but because of he's behaviour he couldn't have it.

"Teddie is a 4-year-old boy whom was diagnosed at 14 months old with ASD/ADHD, Hypermobility, Global development delay, sensory processing disorder, Pica and lastly ARFID.

"Teddie was born a healthy 6lb 6oz baby with no complications. Around when Teddie was 11 months old, we started having great difficulties with his sleep and to say the least it was really tough time for us as a complete family of 5, especially the last 12- 18 months being a SEN parent with multiple complex chronic illnesses relapsing, alongside mental health.

"We had tried absolutely everything even down to prescribed medication and the most sleep Teddie would have a night was around 2 hours on an extremely good night. Sleep deprivation took its toll on everybody, especially my husband, Teddies dad, due to my health and medication he took over all night time duties and still carried out everything during the day as normal.

"There were days and nights we would sit and cry with Teddie due to his lack of sleep, our lack of sleep. At times I we would even curl up on the sofa during the day for a small moment of a nap out of sheer exhaustion and emotions running so high. We felt so helpless for Teddie, not being able to understand danger and risks that surround him, causing injuries to himself, even severe risks of choking hazards from chewing non-food items due to his Pica. Despite our best efforts to mitigate all risks and prevention, in the past his activity sadly led to a small house fire. Teddies development was also at a standstill.

"We searched and searched and never gave up and this is when we came across the UrZone bed from HKD Solutions. We spent hours looking at it. Finally, we approached them for a trial and everything was so easy from the moment we made contact. Our trial bed was delivered and this is where Teddie’s new chapter unfolds.

"The trial bed came and as we un boxed it all we were instantly relieved to find a no stress policy of putting it together and felt so at ease. We were sceptical but very excited for Teddie’s first night in new surroundings of bed, which also would keep him safe. With complex health problems the bed was easy to put together and so robust! "We completed Teddies trial and returned the bed and the strength it gave us back to fight for funding via his Occupational Therapist which wasn't easy, but being a SEN parent or a medically dependent child doesn't come with a manual it comes with love, and we fought with the amazing support from HKD Solutions and successfully Teddie now has a fully funded bed in place.

"Since Teddie has had the UrZone bed, not only does he still have 100% sleep succession rate for a full night's sleep, we as a family have been positively impacted in so many ways. This is huge, whilst his sleep has improved so has his development and speech from a non-verbal child to now learning how to put sentences together and slightly improved eating with his ARFID too, just in a short space of a few months. The smile on his face is worth more than the weight of all the hard times and challenges we faced. This Christmas, Teddie even has progressed so much he engages with his siblings and for the first time at Christmas sat and opened his own Christmas presents, this was something we really thought we wouldn't see for a long time. To some it's just a bed, but to us it gave us our life back and more importantly, changed and improved Teddie’s life in such outstanding ways.

"Our son Jayden has been diagnosed with Global Development Delay and Autism (non-verbal). One of the most challenging aspects of Jayden’s Care for us as parents has been getting Jayden to sleep at night and also keeping him safe when he wakens up.

"Jayden was in a Travel cot until the age of 2. In a typical night Jayden would be awake from 1am-5am which became challenging on a constant basis. With his lack of understanding of danger, we got a giant special needs cot made for him. This was good when we were at home but unfortunately we couldn’t bring it with us on holidays so it was not possible to go on holidays as a whole family. Jayden is now 6 years old and with getting older, stronger and more exploring, Jayden figured out how to climb out of the specialized bed.

"We were looking for an alternative specialised cot, as the answer from our Health Care OT Department was to put him on a mattress on the floor and lock the door. We had no alternative for safety reasons, to resort to the mattress on the floor as the health care trust OT department would not provide a letter in support of another specialised cot even though a charity was fully funding it. Unfortunately, if we lived in any other trust area we would have had it funded by the health care trust.

"Psychologically this was not good for Jayden and started crying in the morning when he woke up. We had entered a Facebook competition to win a UrZone bed in the hope that we possible could win it as Jayden loves enclosed spaces and it looked like a fantastic bed for him. "We already had a Theraposture bed for at home and I wish we had known about the UrZone before! Our son had been kicking the doors when he wakes, which is anytime from 4am, the noise is unbearable and he knew we will go straight to him and let him out. When he's in the UrZone he has nothing that he can kick to make a noise, I think the fact it is all enclosed helps him to feel more secure as he is so relaxed when he's in it, he also loves the led lights which have different colours and settings.

"Anti-entrapment was a necessity for us due to his sleep disorder, he is very active during the night, and he has seizures. He even asks to go in it during the day, just lay's in it watching his iPad. I leave the side up so he can get in and out on his own, and I do a few jobs in the same room so I can keep an eye on him. At times he asks for the door to be shut, so I zip him in and manage to go and have a cup of tea in peace, which has never happened before!

"After 2 years of interrupted sleep and no help from our OT's we stumbled across the UrZone.

"It has simply changed our lives. Jacob has a genetic issue which causes him to have high muscle tone and at time no vision at all. This leaves him extremely vulnerable over night if he gets out of bed.

"Our OT told us that he should sleep on the floor on a mattress with no other furniture in the room and that we remove the radiator and the room door. They advised that putting him in enclosed bed was cruel. Jacob loves his new bed, he sleeps all night, he's safe and secure.
